The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Surgery, Division
of Minimally Invasive Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or
Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care within
defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed
physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and
procedures located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Hospital.The
mission of the Division of Minimally Invasive and General Surgery
is to promote excellence in patient care, scientific research, and
education. We strive to provide the latest techniques to allow our
patients to work with us to tailor a treatment plan that is right
for them - whether their problem is simple or complex. We will
provide timely and attentive service to our patients and referring
providers. We will advance the science of surgery and define the
future of surgery - both through our advanced research and

Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary
health care team who will contribute to excellence in program
administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality
improvement, and teaching.The Ideal Candidate will have 5+ years of
Surgical Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, Bariatric Surgery or
Obesity Medicine experience wanting to be part of a thriving and
very collaborative academic practice at the Medical College of
Wisconsin (MCW). Areas of responsibility will include, but not be
limited to providing direct patient care to an adult population in
an outpatient setting.In this role you will:
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in
diagnosis and treatment of adult bariatric (primary role) and
general surgery patients in the outpatient setting.
- Collaborates with other consultative care teams and primary
team in the management of bariatric (primary role) and general
surgery patients.
- Participants in outpatient preoperative and postoperative
patient care.
- Educates patients and families on preoperative and
postoperative patient care.
- Develops expertise in cross continuum care management and
treatment interventions specific to this patient population.
- Provides clinical care coordination, including pathways,
protocols, patient, and provider education of the bariatric surgery
program under supervision of the medical director.
- Clinically supports quality and safety accreditation and
compliance of the bariatric program with MBSAQIP standards under
the supervision of the medical director.
- Administrates the MBSAQIP Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery
committee.
- Writes accurate and timely consultative and progress
notes.
- Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic
procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents
information.
- Privileged to perform procedures as identified by the
collaborating surgeon that are beyond core privileges.
- Facilitates and communicates with patients, family, and other
care organizations to promote continuity across the continuum of
care.
- Attends required training and meets key regulatory
requirements, including CMS and The Joint Commission.
- Evaluates and monitors quality outcomes for the bariatric
surgery program and supports quality improvement initiatives.
- Orchestrates and oversees the bariatric program support group
monthly sessions. Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies
normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and
psychosocial status.
- Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic
procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents
information
- Write accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes,
and/or admission and transfer orders
- Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment
plans.
- Monitor effectiveness of plan of care
- Educate patients on disease and treatment plans.
- Perform procedures as trained and appropriately
credentialed.
- Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and
completes other necessary documents.
- Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health
care providers as appropriate.
- Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding
current health problems, health maintenance activities and
preventive behaviors.
- Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements,
including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint
Commission.
- Acquires information on the most current development and trends
in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field,
through educational programs, in-services, professional associates,

Preferred Schedule:
Generally, Monday - Friday; 8:00a - 5:00p. Hours will vary based on
patient and clinical needs.
Position Requirements:
Preferred Experience: Surgical Nursing or Critical Care experience
of 5 years or more. Bariatric Surgery or Obesity Medicine
experience. Minimum Education:Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's
Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician
Assistant Studies Minimum Requirements: *or eligibleAdvanced

Practitioner Wisconsin Physician Assistant LicenseWisconsin RN
