- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in designing, developing, and operating
distributed systems.
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role;
overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people
management, supervision/team leadership role.Preferred
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical
field.
- 3 years of experience working in a changing organization.
- Experience with storage technologies and distributed storage
systems.
- Experience with C++ development, modern C++ standards, and best
practices for building high-performance reliable software.
- Experience with Google SQL or other relational databases, with
knowledge of capacity planning, performance monitoring, and
optimization techniques.About the JobSoftware Engineering Managers
have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide
technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of
Engineers. You optimize your own code and make sure Engineers are
able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager, you
manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy, and help
develop your team.In this role, you will drive cost savings by
optimizing Google's storage infrastructure and offloading I/O to
Flash drives, impacting engineers and traffic. You'll lead a
high-performing team focused on efficiency and innovation. This
includes executing on projects critical to the data center hardware
and capacity roadmap.Responsibilities
- Lead a high-performing team of software engineers by fostering
a culture of collaboration, psychological safety, and continuous
growth, and manage performance expectations, conduct evaluations,
and guide career development.
- Build and maintain relationships with partner teams across
Google to ensure integration and alignment on shared goals.
- Partner with the Tech Lead to define and execute on a long-term
project roadmap, balancing innovation with business needs and cost
considerations.
- Lead and uphold a well-documented codebase with comprehensive
and reliable tests to ensure high-quality software delivery.
- Prioritize features based on cost-benefit analysis in projects
