Description
The Stoughton Area School District is accepting applications for a
1.0 FTE Special Education Teacher/Learning Strategist at River
Bluff Middle School, effective immediately for the 2024-25 school
year.

Summary: Stoughton Area School District is seeking a Special
Education Learning Strategist who is an asset-based thinker to
provide specialized instruction that supports students' academic,
social-emotional, and executive functioning growth. The role
involves collaborating with a variety of stakeholders to co-plan
and ensure access to the general education curriculum in the least
restrictive environment, while designing individualized
interventions and promoting inclusion. The strategist will help
students develop key skills for success, tracking progress and
adapting strategies as needed to foster a positive, supportive
learning environment. This position will have opportunities to
collaborate with our Social-Emotional Learning Coach and our
Inclusion Support Coach to develop innovative approaches to meet
the needs of students with intensive behavioral challenges.
Primary Job Functions:
1. Evaluate students to determine eligibility for special education
services and collaboratively facilitate, develop and provide needed
services to support learning through an Individualized Education
Plan (IEP) in the Least Restrictive Environment .
2. Understand the continuum of service delivery and least
restrictive environment with the intent to provide students with
skills needed to be successful in the general education
environment, to the greatest extent possible.
3. Use of a wide variety of research-based interventions (specially
designed instruction) for math, literacy, social, emotional, and
executive functioning skills.
4. Develop, communicate, implement, and review functional behavior
analysis and individualized behavior plans.
5. Understand and use culturally responsive and trauma-sensitive
practices.
6. Understand curricular design in all core subject areas to
provide access points and supplementary aids and services to
collaboratively plan lessons with General education teachers in
order to reach a variety of learners (Universal Design for
Learning).
7. Collaborate closely with all school staff, including
administrators, general education teachers, other learning
strategists, counselors, social workers, school psychologists, and
paraprofessionals.
8. Develop strong relationships and collaborate closely with
parents and students.
9. Collect, review, document, and use data to inform practices,
determine specially designed instruction and supplementary
aids/services, and problem solve creatively.
10. Maintain and complete all appropriate records including IEPs,
progress reports, classroom observation records, and other records
as required by deadlines determined by the Director of Student
Services.
11. Coordinate, prepare for, and facilitate IEP team meetings with
a focus on achieving goals within the structure of the
curriculum.
12. Provide community-based and non-school instruction as
determined by the IEP.
13. Attend staff meetings.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
1. Current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction certification
(special ed-preferred cross categorical, dual certification general
ed/special ed preferred).
2. Five years teaching experience is preferred.
3. Master's degree preferred.
4. Evidence of competencies in social/emotional instruction and
intensive intervention is strongly encouraged.
5. Experience with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder is
strongly encouraged.
6. Advocate of the District's Strategic Plan strategies and related
activities with an inclusive focus.
7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to
work well with students, parents, staff and the community.
8. High integrity, excellent character, and good professional
reputation.
9. Able to develop a trusting, respectful and confidential
relationship.
Language Skills: Excellent communication skills to work effectively
with educators, administrators, and other staff. Must be able to
read, document and present information clearly to individuals and
also in group settings.

required to talk or hear. The position requires some periods of
standing while teaching/training. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust
