delivers on our promises.Position Summary:Reporting to the AVP,
Tax, the Tax Director will lead federal and state income tax
compliance and support financial reporting matters. The Tax
Director will act as a primary liaison with non-tax areas such as
Investments, Actuarial or Human Resources. The Tax Director will
work cross-functionally with other Finance and Accounting
professionals and be a "go-to" person when it comes to advising and
ensuring conformity with applicable tax laws and financial
reporting standards. The Tax Director will participate in, and
support, tax planning, business integration and M&A activities,
as well as partner with other tax teammates in technology
adoption.Position Responsibilities:
- Lead income tax compliance
- Represent the Tax Department with other functional areas
- Partner with tax team members in tax planning
- Develop and manage relevant key performance indicators
(KPIs)
- Manage special projects, including M&A, integrations and
system conversionsPosition Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 8+ years of public
accounting and/or in-house corporate tax department experience (or
equivalent)
- Advanced knowledge of ASC 740 and SSAP 101
- Advanced knowledge of insurance company and corporate
taxation
- Strong working abilities with tax technology (e.g., Corptax or
Longview), automation and visualization tools (e.g., robotics
platforms, Tableau and Tableau Prep), and Excel
- High exposure and experience with respect to accounting for
income taxes pursuant to ASC 740
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly effective interpersonal skills, including written and
oral communication skills, with an ability to address complex tax
matters in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax
professionals
- Proven process-improvement and documentation track record
- Advanced degree in law, tax, accounting or related field,
preferred
- Ability to analyze statutes, regulations and guidance and then
make recommendations and take action
- Experience enabling growth, driving operational effectiveness,
managing risk and improving the quality, speed and availability of
data relevant to tax matters
- Track record in prioritizing competing demands, sound
decision-making and delivering results on tight timelines
- Experience working with digital technologies including common
tax provision and compliance platforms
- Experience working in a matrix environment, influencing
strategy and achieving goals by working with people across the
organization
- Detail-oriented, organized and possesses excellent analytical
and problem-solving skills
- Effective interpersonal skills, including written and oral
communication skills, with an ability to address complex tax
matters in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax
professionals
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- The selected candidate will work a hybrid schedule which will
require weekly reporting to our Chicago, IL office
